I didn’t really look at it when it first came out, but I went to build one online, and man... I just don’t even know. I know the Camaro was last in the new muscle car wars, but this isn’t going to help anything.

I don’t really know why you’d choose one over a Mustang.

Saw the 2019 SS on the road for the first time few weeks back. It’s irredeema bly ugly.

Me either. After driving a 2018 Turbo4
Camaro as a rental
, the visibility alone was enough for me to never consider that car.

I could say something useful, but I drive a ugly car.

Why not just use a modern version of the ‘69 Camaro? It looked the best! The rest of the body on the current model would fit perfectly with a retro look.

they need to ditch new retro all together and pen a whole new shape

My friend searched out a 2018 SS 1LE last year because of the front end change. The 2019s had already started showing up on lots and he refused to get one.

I desperately want a Mustang, but I’m really off new cars these days. I plan on keeping the ST for a while, maybe get a JK or JL.... or something else.

I’d like a 2012 302, but those won’t drop in price.

no, they won’t. I kinda want a Fox Body, as a project. I have this fantasy where I basically make a joke car out of either a Fox Body or P71

One of my favourite builds was project Ugly Horse, where the writer put a 2.3 litre Ecoboost in a Fox body. It was cool, if you need inspiration for a joke car .

I’d probably get a Mustang because I prefer its styling, but the Camaro’s Alpha chassis is arguably one of the top-10 chass is’ currently on the market.
The turbo-4 already has a national autocross championship under its belt (beating out the segment heavyweights, the BRZ and Integra). The SS 1LE is as fast as a 911 Turbo and GTR around MotorTrend’s figure-8 circuit, and the ZL1 1LE is faster than both around VIR (one of the tightest handling circuits in America).

The SS (at least in 2017) felt more visceral of an experience to drive than the GT, which felt more laid back. Visibility sucks, but I sort of liked being in the Camaro more than the M ustang.

I ordered and took delivery of my 2019 2SS. I ordered it with the Ground Effects package and it looks badass on the front! The Flow Tie looks much better in person than it does on the build site.
Honestly, I don’t believe you can build the 2019 with the Fkow Tie anymore. I read right around the SEMA show that GM stopped production on the Fkow Tie model?! They are going back to the Bowtie in the Upper Grill where ALLLLLLLLLL of the other models have it...I think it looks generic and too much like the others, 5th & 6th gen models!

The 2019 SS & 1LE come standard with the Rear View Camera Mirror that makes it much easier to drive...

Give me a break. “It looks just fine! ”.
Unique and basically perfect.... The car we waited for, for so many years.
Please don’t loose the Flow-Tie Chevy... It’s an awesome signature design element.
This is the best looking Camaro ever, and I say that as a former owner.
You guys want Chevy to just keep everything looking the same, or just like everyone else’s car ?
I think most of these "critics " don’t even own a car, or they are fans of competing brands.
I hope GM doe sn’ t get goaded Into making the Camaro look ugly or boring.

GT-R and 911 Turbo are much faster than any Camaro on any track.. . 1 5-20 mph faster. If your talking about track times, thats quick or quicker. The word “ Fast” has nothing to do with times.
![]() 02/04/2019 at 00:20 |

I will agree with the 1LE being quicker but not faster on tracks .

The Camaro is a perfect example of what happens when all you do is listen to focus groups instead of using your head. Chevy rounded up a bunch of Camaro owners together and apparently they decided the styling was the most important factor over the Mustang so Chevy barely updated the shape while the new M ustang was nicely refreshed . I hope this teaches Chevy a lesson about focus groups but I am not holding out hope considering their stupid commercials have been widely panned for ages and yet they keep making the same crap.

The lead designer for the Camaro had the audacity to tell C&D they were not aware of any visibility issues when the new Camaro was released. Word got out after that the ran a focus group of fa nboys who told them the visibility was worth the looks. And there we have it, a Camaro with a face only a fanboy can love.

I own one, and the disability is not great. Neither is it as bad as you make it out to be. You don't need to see much when you're in the lead!
![]() 02/04/2019 at 02:52 |

They aren’t, the Camaro is last in muscle car sales, far below the Mustang and just beaten by the ancient Challengersaurus. It’s probably the best performing car out of the three, but its packaging and costs have not been kind to it’s sales numbers.
![]() 02/04/2019 at 02:53 |

That front end is getting an emergency styling update, that’s probably only for one model year.
![]() 02/04/2019 at 05:55 |

Maybe because it's the better looking of the two.

The Fox body is actually based upon the Ford Furtura(Spelling probably not correct). Anyway, the frame on the Fox body is weak as a noodle.

Neither has great styling but between the two I would go with the Camaro.

Not that it’s all that ugly, moreso that GM has veered so far off the spirit of the ‘69 Camaro. Looking at the new Mustangs & Challengers, they're automatically recognized as a '70 retro throwback design. Camaro is just like WTF?

Jeep all the way.

Agree with this. It’s like looking out (or attempting to) of an armored car. I’m lulled into a false sense of security and find myself driving into neighborhoods that I shouldn’t. On the plus side, Hertz rental warranty covers carjackings....
![]() 02/04/2019 at 07:23 |

The Camaro certainly has flaws but the reason you would choose one over a Mustang would be the chassis. GM’s Alpha chassis is excellent and it elevates th e Camaro over Mustang if you appreciate the nuances of handling. The chassis is competitve with or better than many cars costing much more... BMWs included. It would be great to have it in a bit kess exagg erated looking car; perhaps with the next gen model in 2020 or 2021.
Mustang doesn’t compete chassis wise until you get to the GT350 models. But Mustangs do have other advantages in the comparison.

Well if you look at it that way everything is a turd after ten years of new technology and what not coming out, I mean shit my Ford focus 4cyl. has just as many horses as a mustang GT from the early 90s and about the same amount as my v6 02 Camaro.. It's just the way things go..
![]() 02/04/2019 at 09:52 |

Really? I think the front end on that generation is what prompted a front end change, which I agree with using the front end from a 69 or that generation. I remember when they were first bringing the Camaro back out, Around 2008 or 09 I remember seeing a concept car that was basically a 69 but with softer/more rounded edges I had the picture saved forever but would prolly not find it if I tried

I haven’t driven the 2019 Camaro amd mustang, but I did for 2018 so my critique may be outdated . The Camaro SS felt like a true sports car, while the mustang gt felt more like am economy coupe with good power. Aside from the finishes inside the Camaro which I viewed as nicer, the active rev matching sounds awesome and is helpful, HUD, and a dual stage exhaust. Granted I did test drive the SS 1LE, compared to a base GT, but only because there was not a comparable performance model for mustang. Oh yeah, and the mustang gear indicator on the shifter popped off during the test drive, not good . Even though they went a little crazy with the front end of the Camaro, I still would choose it over the mustang for those reasons.

Somebody bought one. I know because I saw it on the highway. It was night and the way the DRL LEDs snake into the grille made me think a ricer with terrible taste had zip tied LED strips in weird places on his car. I was wrong, once it got closer I realized it was just a new Camaro.

Challenger for the win. Most HP, looks badass, and it’s actually comfortable.
The new Camaro is a mess. And the Mustang needs a psychologist. It doesn’t know if it wants to be a muscle car or a sports car. And they both look like sh*t.
Muscle cars are meant to be fast in a straight line and to look good doing it. If you want a car that will take on road courses, go buy a Corvette Z06 or a Porsche 911.
Honestly, the last good year for the Mustang was 2013. The good Mustang years are 1964-1969 , and 1997-2013. The good Camaro years are the first gen years.
The Ricaro- like sports seats ruin the Camaro and Mustang. The Challenger is the last of a dying breed- a true GT car with plenty of power.

you’re right - I can’t afford one, and this is how I justified not buying one ;)
